For this project, we explored an experimental take on how peoples opinons can lead to a chain reactions of feelings and thoughts.

DON'T PUSH MY BUTTONS

Focus

The project focused on a mix of interesting transitions & lighting setups in Houdini. This a first time utilizing MPM for dynamic interactions and responsive motion.

Extensive rendering work included fine-tuning materials, volumetrics, motion blur, and blending between different shapes and surface types. Transitions were carefully managed to create smooth continuity between states, emphasizing visual clarity and expressive motion while maintaining the flexibility of a procedural workflow.

Idea & Process

Don’t Push My Buttons is a conceptual project exploring emotional boundaries and personal triggers through the metaphor of buttons.

The idea visualizes how external stimuli such as stress, conflict, or social pressure can push our buttons and how maintaining control prevents these triggers from affecting us.

The process involved designing interactive, visually expressive button systems and connecting them to abstract representations of emotional response. Procedural workflows in Houdini were used to generate and animate buttons, controls, and linked mechanisms, emphasizing responsiveness, timing, and feedback. The project also experimented with visual metaphors and material variations to convey intensity and restraint, creating a cohesive system that translates psychological concepts into tangible, motion-driven visuals.
